Michigan CCW Renewal Review Course
This course, while not required under the law, is for people who desire to have proof of having fulfilled the review requirements of the law for renewing their CCW permit. It is open to persons who are currently licensed to carry a concealed pistol in Michigan and consists of three hours in the classroom reviewing the relevant portions of the NRA "Personal Protection in the Home" course materials, including one hour with a lawyer reviewing Michigan laws. You will also spend one hour on the range firing at least 66 rounds of more intensive shooting that was required for the "Personal Protection in the Home" course. For this course, the student is requested to furnish a personal protection caliber centerfire handgun (Minimum .380) along with a speed loader or spare magazine. The course starts promptly at 9:00am and runs until approximately 2:00pm.
- Cost: $50 for non-members
First Steps Pistol Training
This is the ideal course for people new to the sport of handgun shooting. It also qualifies as a prerequisite for persons who intend to take the 'Personal Protection in the Home' class but have limited experience with a handgun. The course starts promptly at 9:00am and runs until approximately 2:00pm.
- Safe gun handling skills
- Proper shooting technique
- Information for making a good handgun purchase decision
- Information about the different calibers, ammunition, and types of handguns that are available
- How to safely clean your handgun
- Class is 4 hours of instruction including range time
- Cost: $50 for non-members
All Personal Protection Training courses taught at Washtenaw Sportsman's Club have several basic requirements:
- The student must furnish the appropriate amount of COMMERCIALLY LOADED (store purchased, no hand loaded or custom ammunition of any type are allowed) ammunition for his/her handgun
(PPT = 150 Rounds, PPT Review = 100 Rounds, First Steps = 50 Rounds) to complete the course. If the student does not own a suitable handgun, arrangements can be made - please call 734-417-9445 for information.
- Registration, which must be completed prior to the course, requires a valid driver's license or adult consent for minors. Payment in full is due at the time of registration (cash or check - no credit cards). Please arrive one half hour prior to the class to complete registration.
- Washtenaw Sportsman's Club can furnish eye and ear protection, but it is strongly recommended that the student purchase these items since they will be required for future practice with firearms. You will also be more comfortable with your own equipment.
- The pistol range at Washtenaw Sportsman's Club is an outdoor range with covered firing points. The student should dress appropriately for the expected weather conditions. In the summer the student should bring insect repellent since the club grounds are heavily wooded in the immediate area of the shooting range.
- NO PRESENTATION FROM A HOLSTER IS INVOLVED IN ANY COURSE taught by Washtenaw Sportsman's Club.
